Upcoming Events

May 26, 2026 Poster Blast
Time: 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM Location: O'Connor 510
This event focuses on topics like amyloid biology, neurodevelopment and degeneration, protein science, and both experimental and computational methods. It offers attendees a chance to share research, learn new techniques, network with peers and faculty, and explore collaborations. Students are encouraged to present existing posters (up to 36 inches), with opportunities to compete for prizes, and lunch will be provided.

Speaker Seminar Series

April 23, 2026 Dr. Rakez Kayed, UTMB, Galveston
Time: 4:00 PM Location: DBH 180
This seminar will present recent findings on pathological tau aggregates in neurodegenerative diseases which form distinct polymorphic species across neurodegenerative diseases and even across Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients, exploring implications for diagnostics and drug development.
May 14, 2026 Dr. Huda Zoghbi, Baylor College of Medicine
Time: 12:00 PM Location: Dell Butcher Hall 180
This seminar explores how protein misfolding and accumulation drive neurodegeneration across diseases ranging from the rare inherited spinocerebelar ataxia to the all-too-common Alzheimer's disease. It will highlight how genetic screens have helped identify modulators of tau protein levels.
RESCHEDULED TBD Dr. Marc Diamond, UT Southwestern, Dallas
Time: TBD Location: TBD
This seminar will present recent advances in cellular models that overturn conventional assumptions about tau assembly processing, and will describe how prion-based cell assays enable mechanistically grounded detection, discrimination, and classification of tau assemblies.
