Speaker Seminar Series

October 22, 2026 Dr. Marc Diamond, UT Southwestern, Dallas
Time: 4:00 PM Location: Rice University, Dell Butcher Hall 180
This seminar will present recent advances in cellular models that overturn conventional assumptions about tau assembly processing, and will describe how prion-based cell assays enable mechanistically grounded detection, discrimination, and classification of tau assemblies.

November 6, 2026 Dr. Lorena Saelices, UT Southwestern, Medical Center
Time: 4:00 PM Location: Rice University, Dell Butcher Hall 180
A bit about The Saelices Laboratory: The Saelices Laboratory is devoted to the study of systemic amyloid diseases—disorders caused by the misfolding of specific proteins that aggregate into amyloid fibrils and deposit in various peripheral organs. These deposits disrupt tissue architecture and function, ultimately leading to organ failure and death. These conditions are often underdiagnosed, complex, and challenging to treat. Their research aims to understand the structural basis and the biology of amyloid formation and its precursors, and to develop clinical tools for early detection and inhibition of amyloids.
November 17, 2026 Dr. Lukasz Joachimiak, UT Southwestern
